»You see, my son: here time becomes space« is the motto of the first change of scenery in Richard Wagner’s »Parsifal« (1882). The motto can also be regarded as an early vision of the new medium film which was to come into being some time later. The transformations of the stage space in film will be presented with examples from early films. Cinematic »Gesamtkunstwerke« and strategies of post-modern space cinema will also be dealt with.
Bernd Künzig studied German, music and history. He works as a free-lance exhibition maker and is curator of the art programme »Friedrichsbau Bühl«. Several publications, lectures and radio programmes on contemporary art positions, literature, film, and music.
